This past Wednesday morning in Torrance, California, an 18-year-old gamer was apparently saved by a Razer headset when he dodged a stray bullet. The photo slipped off the Razer Kraken headset after punching through the bedroom window and bouncing off a wall. No one was injured in the incident, although the victim reported a persistent headache.
“Hello everyone who sees this,” wrote Enough_Dance_956 in a Reddit post Last week. “I’m trying to reach someone at Razer to thank them wholeheartedly. On Wednesday morning at 10:30am, a stray bullet went through my window and hit the Razer headphones above my head. good quality headphones I would have been a dead kid at 18. I couldn’t even imagine all the pain my family and friends would have gone through.”
The teenager says he discovered the bullet in his bed and turned it over to the police.
In part because the Reddit post was made around April Fools’ Day, it was met with great skepticism on the site. Some accused the poster of staging the shooting to win a free headset. Enough_Dance_956 responded to the suspicion with a second post which included photos showing the bullet hole in the window, the indentation in the wall from the first ricochet, and the bullet in the bed where it ended up after hitting the earpiece.
A representative for Razer told us that the company was not behind the post, nor was it aware of the incident before it appeared on Reddit. “This is not an April Fools joke, at least not from us,” they said. “We’ve already reached out to the community member to thank them and at least buy a new headset.”
Razer founder and CEO Min Liang-Tan even posted in the thread: “Wow, this is crazy. Glad you’re okay!”
We have reached out to Enough_Dance_956 and the Torrance Police Department for more information.
