Two years ago, Guild Wars 2 was infiltrated by giant cats. It was intentional, some cheeky April Fools shenanigans. But now, something even more cursed has come to the game, something I’m sure ArenaNet didn’t intend to happen. The reign of big cats is over, now long cats are the last thing to wreak havoc in the MMO.
The whole thing appears to be a glitch that arrived with the game’s latest update – which marked the start of the Super Adventure Festival event – and affects the feline race’s charr. They look perfectly normal until you try to equip them with the light armor version of the Reality Rig Mk2 festival armor, at which point they become incredibly springy lads.
Players have had a lot of fun with the bug, with the Guild Wars 2 subreddit being filled with various gifs, images and videos. Some are even using the elongated bug to make fun cosplays of cartoon characters and compared their appearance to long cat memes.
The scariest is perhaps combining the fault with the bobblehead lab effect, which made me uncomfortable and also completely unable to take my eyes off the screen. It’s a peculiar bug that proved so popular that players also asked ArenaNet to turn it into a tonic – consumables that can transform characters in different ways. Despite being a fun and non-invasive question, ArenaNet has already confirmed in a tweet reply who is working on a fix for the problem. Boooo.
