How to use the new WhatsApp disappearing messages feature on Android and iOS Smartphones and Desktop

WhatsApp has rolled out its new disappearing messages feature for Indian and Worldwide users. Know here how to enable this feature on your android and iOS.While the feature sounds similar to what apps like Telegram, Snapchat, Signal and Wire offer, it is slightly different as the Facebook bought messaging service has a fixed 7 days period of time after which the messages will get deleted automatically if the feature is tuned on. The other apps give users the option to select the time period after which they want to delete the message automatically.

The Facebook owned messaging app has announced that the feature is now official and will be rolled out to its 2-billion plus users “during this month.”
Today we have brought for you the steps how you can also enable the feature of disappearing messages on WhatsApp

In a blog, WhatsApp said, “Our goal is make conversations on WhatsApp feel as close to real talks as possible, which means they shouldn’t have to stick around forever. That’s why we’re excited to introduce to you disappearing messages on WhatsApp.”

The feature is available on all WhatsApp supported devices such as Android, iOS, and KaiOS devices, along with WhatsApp Web and Desktop platform.

Not Everything Disappears
While the feature is aimed at making chats more secure, it does have some loopholes. For example, if someone quotes you and replies to a disappearing message, the quoted text will remain in the chat even after seven days.

Similarly if a user creates a backup before a message disappeared, it will be saved in the backup. “Disappearing messages will be deleted when a user restores from a backup,” WhatsApp explained in its blogpost.

Disappearing messages will also wipe out photos and videos after seven days, and while messages will disappear for both parties but there are still loopholes like user can take screenshots or just simply copy messages before they are automatically deleted. Or, they can also save the photos or other content with auto-download on. You can turn auto-download off in WhatsApp Settings > Data and Storage Usage.
If a user doesn’t open WhatsApp in the seven-day period, the message will disappear. However, notifications of the message might still be displayed in until WhatsApp is opened.

Moreover, if a disappearing message is forwarded to a chat with disappearing messages off, the messages won’t disappear in the forwarded chat.
