Developers at 343 Industries seem to be teasing the Flood Firefight co-op wave survival mode for this week. This new incarnation of the wave-based survival mode would allow players to take on hordes of the zombie-like Flood rather than the alien Covenant.
“Next week, something new is on its way to MCC… 💀👀,” he said (opens in new tab) the official Halo Twitter account, alongside a nice big shot of a Marine shooting some big Flood monsters.

Firefight, the wave-based co-op survival mode featured in Halo 3: ODST and Halo: Reach, was previously only available as a survival mode against the Covenant. Covenant soldiers are more agile attackers with lots of ranged weapons, while the Flood contains a higher percentage of strong, fast warriors that want to get close to you and your four friends.
The flood shooting was beta tested last year (opens in new tab), but never officially released the mode – due to concerns about AI behavior. So it looks like we’ll finally see a proper zombie mode in some 10-year-old Halo releases, of all games, in the year 2022.
