Orcs Must Die 3: Tipping the Scales DLC arrives today

Drop your spike traps and prepare for a new type of horde, Orcs Must Die 3 (opens in new tab)Tipping the Scales DLC spills angry lizard men all over your PC.

Tipping the scales introduces an all-new run to comic tower defense. The Tuatara are a colorful reptilian race whose hardened scales apparently limit the amount of damage they take. Within the cold-blooded mobs of the Tuatara is a new type of enemy, the Tuatara Assassin, who can sneak around your traps.

You’ll fight these scaly enemies across five new levels, which include a new war scenario (basically a bumper-sized OMD level with bigger traps and siege mechanics) called Untrained Grounds. This is apparently inspired by the Orcs Must Die Unchained boot camps. (I smell smart asset reuse). Tipping the Scales also adds some new weapons and traps, such as the “Hand Gatling” weapon, which is sort of like a one-armed minigun, and the Briar Patch trap, which literally forces your enemies to crawl through a hedge, though it doesn’t. necessarily backwards.

There are also four endless maps, a few new skins, and six new achievements, all of which cost $7.99. Paid DLC is released alongside a free update that adds two new Endless Mode maps, some new features for Shuffle Mode, and a sprinkling of bug fixes.

You can see tipping the scales in action in the trailer above. The nuisance orc veteran Jeremy was charmed (opens in new tab) by Robot Entertainment’s threequel when he reviewed it last year. I wasn’t that enamored of it in my own game, but it’s a decent romp, and the DLC seems like a nice addition.
