It’s April Fools’ Day, canonically the worst day to write news. Today it’s about trying to fool the general public with fake products, bad plugs and typical internet pranks. Some of these jokes are better than others, because some just suck. But I’m always pleasantly surprised by April Fools’ Day memes that give us a good laugh. So here are some of my favorite April Fools’ Day jokes of 2022.
Hyper X Touch Grass Keycaps
One of my favorite comebacks at the moment is “touch the grass”. It’s a saying that basically means, give up and go outside. You’re thinking too much about internet drama, getting too angry over petty things, too deep in twitter scroll, get out and just touch the grass. You’ll feel better about it, I promise.
So HyperX introduces its April Fools joke, the Touch Grass Key Caps. The press release for this eco-friendly kit reads, “In your most intense matches, you can finally feel the soft grass tickling your fingertips as you hit the clip highlights. Premium options also include a grass scent to scare away any one who doesn’t mind their own business. Embrace nature and ‘Touch Grass’ with HyperX on Earth Day 2022.” HyperX good stuff, good stuff.
NZXT’s H-AND Steam Deck Parody
Introducing the NZXT H-AND, take PC gaming anywhere! Packed with industry-leading specs and components, it’s time to go the extra mile. Featuring: • 32-core, 64-thread APU • 12-inch 800 DPI display • Detachable keyboard without keyboard • Plenty of RGB • And more! Can you handle it? ✋ #NZXTHAND pic.twitter.com/Rd1m5JqEN2March 31, 2022
Mysteriously posted on March 31, NZXT announced the H-AND, a portable PC gaming setup that looks a bit like the Steam Deck, but… worse. The tweet announcing the product states that the hardware features “32-core, 64-thread APU, 12-inch 800 DPI display, Tenkeyless pullout keyboard, lots of RGB” and more. The only problem is that the keyboard in question comes out of the left side of the screen, making it impossible to see the screen and use the keyboard. Oh, and the mouse function on the right side is built in, so it wouldn’t be functional as a mouse. Something tells me this is not a real product, folks.
Flipper House Friends Update
House Flipper’s April Fools Update might remind you of two pop culture apartments. something looks a lot friendly about these places, I can’t quite put my finger on it. It would be a great place to hang out with friends and maybe watch a comedy, right?
If you still don’t get the hint, the House Flipper update is based on the American comedy Friends. The two apartments where most of the show takes place are available to flip and update to your liking, which is a pretty cool idea. What’s even better is that this is a real update. Available now. April Fools’ Day creates a lot of fake products that will never be available, so it’s nice to see something tangible coming from a developer.
Retro Range Overclockers and Elgato Cam Link Retro
Looks retro is this year. These two jokes have the same joke, producing aesthetic products from the 90s to the modern day. Overclockers have tweeted a video celebrating a ‘new’ lineup of PC towers and monitors that will transport you back to the 90s, in case you’re tired of all the RGB that modern setups contain.
Tired of super-slick, futuristic, RGB-heavy technology? 🤔💭 Forget the fluff! Return to cube perfection and retro-style beige and dial-up beauty! 📞✨reBoot by Overclockers UK, the past is now! ⏲🔮 Learn more! 🔎➡ https://t.co/QzV9Mo9W6s pic.twitter.com/Z1SZG6DyPlApril 1, 2022
And what could go better with an old monitor and tower than an old camera recorder? Elgato’s April Fools are Cam Link Retro, a play on their Cam Link product that content creators use to connect their cameras to their streams. As it only supports HDMI, older cameras with RCA or composite cables cannot connect. But with Cam Link Retro, all that can change.

Royal Albert Hall NFTs
Annoyingly, NFTs continue to make themselves known. I’m not the biggest fan. But I’m a fan of the Royal Albert Hall’s announcement that it’s getting into the cryptocurrency game. If you don’t know, the Royal Albert Hall is a great concert hall in London and a prestigious venue for all kinds of performances. But even with its classic reputation, someone on the team came up with the genius idea to joke about getting into NFTs. The full post can be read herebut just to quote my favorite quote: “For a long time, much of what the Hall offered was fungible – and was eagerly spread by our audience. That’s where NFTs come in. Honestly, I’d like to see someone try to sniff these.”
Goat Simulator: The Musical Motion Picture directed by Steve-O
Not sure what to say about this one that isn’t said in the subtitle. Goat Simulator has announced its debut film, Goat Simulator: The Musical Motion Picture, which will be directed by Steve-O. The press release also states that other celebrities will be starring in the film, such as The Inbetweeners’ James Buckley, Harry Potter’s Tom Felton and Hot Fuzz’s Nick Frost.
The synopsis says the film is about *ahem*: “A small-town goat, Pilgor works the farm like the other animals, but dreams of becoming a big musical movie star.” Pigor is shunned by other animals for getting into accidents all the time, but continues to pursue his dream of “a huge barn full of the best hay… and someone to milk them daily”.
