The Witcher 3’s next-gen update is finally back on the calendar

the witch 3The company’s big next-gen expansion is now officially without delay: CD Projekt announced today that the long-awaited update is scheduled to arrive sometime in the fourth quarter of the year.

“Let’s make this 7th anniversary even better, shall we?” the studio tweeted. “We are delighted to share that the Next Gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is planned for release in Q4 2022. See you on the Way, witches!”

The update was announced in September 2020, but the expected 2021 release was eventually pushed back to 2022 as CD Projekt was forced to focus on cleaning up the Cyberpunk 2077 mess. In April it was pushed back again.”until further notice“, a sinister phrase that forced the company to release a statement the next day insisting the update wasn’t stuck in development hell.

As the name suggests, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt next-gen update is in development for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series XS consoles, but it’s also coming to PC owners as a free update. Details on the update have yet to be announced: CD Projekt Red’s global community director Marcin Momot said on Twitter that “there will be a time for that” but that the studio has no details to share yet.
